When renaming a windows computer, if you receive error 53 "Network path not found", then check your DNS Suffix search list.
In a multi-domain environment there may be multiple DNS suffixes which may make it impossible for the workstation to be renamed if joined to a domain.
Solution
Change the DNS Suffix search order and make sure the primary domain is at the top of the list.
How
Go to TCP/IP Properties Click "Advanced" Click the "DNS" tab Add the domain the workstation is joined to, to "Append these DNS suffixes (in order)" section
