Hate Unity? Set Gnome Classic as the default session type in Ubuntu 12.04. 

 /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-set-defaults -s gnome-classic

or 

/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-set-defaults -s gnome-fallback

If you want "Gnome Classic ( No Effects )"
